CBC News' Abby Luciano reported on a tentative agreement that has been reached between the Grain Workers Union (GWU) and the Vancouver Terminal Elevators' Association (VTEA), ending a four-day strike that disrupted grain shipments across Canada. The deal, announced by the Western Grain Terminal Elevator Association (WGEA), followed resumed negotiations under federal mediator Peter Simpson and is set to run through December 31, 2027.

Workers at six Vancouver terminals, including those operated by Viterra, Richardson, Cargill, G3, and Alliance Grain, walked off the job on Tuesday. GWU Local 333 President Douglas Lea-Smith expressed satisfaction with the agreement, though he noted the challenges workers faced during the strike.

The deal will go to a ratification vote on October 4. Union members have returned to work pending the outcome, with Federal Labour Minister Steve MacKinnon praising both parties for reaching a resolution. If approved, the agreement will ensure stability in Canada’s grain export operations for the next three years.
