US soybean crushing increased in July

Crude oil production rises 4 percent from previous month as processors handle more volume.

U.S. processors crushed 6.14 million tons of soybeans in July, up from 5.91 million tons in June and 5.80 million tons a year earlier, according to the Fats and Oils: Oilseed Crushings, Production, Consumption and Stocks report released by the Department of Agriculture.

The July volume, equivalent to 205 million bushels, represents a 4 percent increase from the previous month and a 6 percent gain from July 2024.

Crude oil produced from the crushed soybeans totaled 2.43 billion pounds, up 4 percent from June and 6 percent higher than the same period last year.

Soybean cake and meal production reached 4.55 million tons in July, compared with 4.39 million tons in June and 4.27 million tons in July 2024.

Canola processing also showed significant gains, with seeds crushed reaching 209,848 tons in July, a 26 percent increase from the 166,486 tons processed in June. However, this remains below the 230,516 tons crushed in July 2024.

Canola crude oil production totaled 164 million pounds, up 25 percent from June but down 10 percent from the previous year.

In contrast, animal fat production declined across categories. Edible tallow production fell to 81.6 million pounds, down 12 percent from June and 8 percent below last year's level.

Inedible tallow production decreased to 274 million pounds, representing a 13 percent drop from June and an 8 percent decline year-over-year.

Technical tallow and choice white grease production also decreased from both the previous month and year.
