KFDA's Madison Fisher reported that after nearly seven months after an explosion at the Skyland Grain elevator injured five employees and cut natural gas service to Sunray, the company is fighting five OSHA citations totaling more than $54,000.

The citations, stemming from the March 28 incident, allege Skyland failed to implement proper housekeeping measures, conduct required inspections, and correct malfunctioning dust collection systems.

Skyland has formally contested all alleged violations and but could not work with OSHA to resolve the matter due to the government shutdown.

Despite the ongoing investigation and regulatory challenges, Skyland plans to rebuild, with a preliminary engineering report expected by year-end to guide construction of new grain facilities in Sunray.
