North American flour production increases in 2024

Combined US and Canadian wheat ground for flour up 1 percent from previous year.

North American flour production saw a modest increase in 2024, according to a joint report released by Statistics Canada and the U.S. Department of Agriculture's National Agricultural Statistics Service.

The combined United States and Canadian all wheat ground for flour reached 1.04 billion bushels in 2024, up 1 percent from 2023. Total flour production rose to 480 million hundredweight, compared to 476 million hundredweight in the previous year.

Durum wheat ground for flour and semolina also saw a slight increase, totaling 73.4 million bushels, up less than 1 percent from 2023. Durum flour production increased by 2 percent to 35.3 million hundredweight.

In the United States, all wheat ground for flour increased to 915.7 million bushels, up from 904.5 million bushels in 2023. U.S. flour production rose to 425.2 million hundredweight, with whole wheat flour production reaching 17.9 million hundredweight.

Canadian wheat ground for flour slightly decreased to 121.6 million bushels, down from 122.6 million bushels in 2023. However, Canadian durum wheat ground for flour saw a small decline to 8.0 million bushels.
