Study shows sector supports over 100,000 jobs, with significant benefits to agricultural states
A new study reveals that the U.S. biomass-based diesel industry contributed $42.4 billion to the economy in 2024, supporting 107,400 jobs and paying $6 billion in annual wages. The report, commissioned by Clean Fuels Alliance America and conducted by GlobalData, analyzed the economic impact across the entire value chain.
The study found that fuel production accounted for nearly half of the total economic impact, generating $19.9 billion and supporting 41,500 jobs. Oilseed production contributed $15.3 billion and supported 30,600 jobs, primarily benefiting soybean-growing states.
Donnell Rehagen, CEO of Clean Fuels, stated, "The numbers don't lie; 2024 was a record-setting year for clean fuels, and the benefits reached deep into rural America."
The report also projects that if the industry reaches a capacity of 7.4 billion gallons, it could support 145,700 jobs and contribute $60.25 billion annually to the U.S. economy.
