Orenda Commodity Services Ltd. has purchased Scoular’s sunflower and wild bird food blending business, including a processing facility in Winkler, Manitoba. The sale closed Jan. 19.
Based in Ste. Agathe, Manitoba, Orenda is a commodity company specializing in wild bird food blending, packaging, and logistics. The company customizes seed mixes for both retail bird food and human consumption markets through its network of local suppliers and customers. The Winkler facility serves both markets.
Orenda President Aaron Elskamp said the acquisition is a natural fit for the company, its producers, and customers. “Sunflowers are a unique crop with a unique market. Orenda specializes in connecting the entire value chain to create a sustainable crop that boosts the Manitoba economy,” he said.
Orenda and U.S.-based Scoular are partnering to ensure a smooth transition for facility employees, sunflower producers, and end-use customers.
The acquisition strengthens Orenda’s position in the sunflower market and supports its mission to deliver customized, sustainable seed products while fostering economic growth in Manitoba.
