North Dakota Mill president Vance Taylor to retire after 26-year tenure

Taylor, the longest-serving president in the Mill's 103-year history, will step down in July 2026.

The North Dakota Industrial Commission announced today that Vance Taylor, president and CEO of the North Dakota Mill and Elevator, plans to retire on July 3, 2026, concluding a remarkable 26-year career at the helm of the state-owned facility.

Taylor, who assumed leadership in June 2000, is the longest-serving president in the Mill's 103-year history and guided its expansion to become the largest single-site mill in the country.

"Under Vance's leadership the North Dakota Mill continued to innovate, expand and generate record profits," stated Commission members Gov. Kelly Armstrong, Attorney General Drew Wrigley and Agriculture Commissioner Doug Goehring in a joint statement. "While leading the Mill to the position of the largest single-site Mill in the country, Vance maintained an unwavering focus on the Mill's mission to support North Dakota farmers and generate a return for its owners – the citizens of North Dakota."

Taylor expressed gratitude for his time at the Mill, saying, "It has been the honor of my professional life to serve this organization."

The Commission will form a search committee to conduct a nationwide search for Taylor's successor.
