KCCI's Pepper Purpura reported that Ames-based Landus Cooperative has laid off approximately 55 employees, about 10% of its Iowa workforce, as part of a strategic move towards implementing AI technology in farming operations.

CEO Matt Carstens announced that the company is introducing data gathering and consolidating systems using AI to enhance crop assessment through drones, airplanes, and satellites. The restructuring aims to align the workforce with the company's new technological direction, promising farmers detailed insights into their operations and profitability. Affected employees are being offered severance packages and career services. Despite the cuts, Carstens assured that there are no plans to close plants or make further reductions.
