ADM announced its agreement to acquire Vandamme Hungaria Kft, a non-GMO crush and extraction facility in northern Hungary, bolstering its non-GMO soybean offerings across Europe. The facility processes 700 metric tons per day of soybeans and corn germ into meal and oils, catering to food, feed, pet, and oil markets.
Sebastian Kuck, ADM's general manager of EU soybean crush, highlighted the growing demand for non-GMO products, with 60% of European consumers favoring non-GMO labeling on packaging. "We're thrilled to add this state-of-the-art soy and corn germ switch plant to further meet the needs of our non-GM customers," Kuck said.
The acquisition also supports European farmers, offering a value-added crop for sustainable agricultural practices. ADM's commercial manager, Rene van der Poel, noted that the expanded non-GMO footprint would help farmers as EU deforestation regulations come into effect.
Built in 2010, the Komárom-based facility employs 38 people and generated €114 million in revenue in 2023. ADM expects to finalize the acquisition, pending regulatory approvals, in the coming months.
