BASF and Bunge announced today that Bunge will process InVigor Gold canola seed, BASF's canola-quality Brassica juncea hybrid designed for hotter, drier conditions. The partnership represents a step toward commercialization as BASF prepares for the U.S. launch in 2027. It also meets canola-quality standards as confirmed by the Federal Grain Inspection Service and can be delivered directly or mixed with traditional black-seed canola for processing.
"Working with an industry leader like Bunge is an important step as we prepare to bring InVigor Gold to farmers," said Hugo Borsari, vice president of business management for Seeds North America at BASF Agricultural Solutions.
BASF introduced InVigor Gold L322, the first hybrid in the portfolio, in June. Initial commercial availability is planned for growers in Montana, North Dakota and Washington beginning in 2027. The hybrid offers earlier maturity, allowing crops to flower earlier and finish faster. It's suited for warmer, drier environments and represents the earliest maturing hybrid in the InVigor portfolio.
"As canola production expands, establishing reliable processing and market access is essential for grower confidence and long-term success," said Mark Riou, Bunge's senior director of canola trading for North America.
Bunge will begin processing at its Warden, Washington facility. The hybrid includes native pod shatter tolerance and LibertyLink weed control, providing Montana growers with a new rotational option. InVigor Gold is designed to expand U.S. canola acreage by unlocking the genetic potential of canola-quality Brassica juncea in areas where traditional canola hasn't thrived.
