GEAPS and the IGP Institute at Kansas State University will host a hands-on training program for grain industry professionals Dec. 1-3 at the institute’s Manhattan, Kansas, facility.
The two-and-a-half-day course focuses on operating and maintaining conveying equipment used in grain facilities. Participants will work directly with five types of systems: distributors, screw conveyors and bin sweeps, chain (drag) conveyors, belt conveyors and bucket elevators.
The program combines instructor demonstrations, hands-on practice and pre-course online modules. Attendees receive reference materials and resources to use after the training ends.
“Having the hands-on experience helps so much more putting things into perspective and understanding how they work rather than just talking about them in front of a screen,” a 2025 participant said.
The training targets engineers, project managers, grain elevator operators, maintenance personnel, millwrights and safety professionals. Organizers say workers at all experience levels will benefit from learning to install, operate, inspect and troubleshoot equipment while understanding safety procedures and how improper use affects grain quality.
Registration is now open with early bird pricing available through Nov. 4. GEAPS members pay $1,800, while nonmembers pay $2,000. Prices increase after the early registration deadline.
Space is limited, and organizers encourage early registration to allow time for completing online modules before the in-person sessions begin.
