Growth Energy, the nation’s largest biofuel trade association, has brought together biofuel industry leaders from across the U.S. for its 15th annual Biofuels Summit in Washington, D.C. The event, which runs through Thursday, serves as a key advocacy platform for advancing biofuels policies and securing America’s energy future.
Attendees will participate in over 100 meetings with lawmakers on Capitol Hill, providing information and support to promote progress in the bioeconomy. The summit features a lineup of influential guest speakers, including U.S. Senators Tammy Duckworth (D-Ill.) and Pete Ricketts (R-Neb.), U.S. Secretary of Agriculture Tom Vilsack, EPA Administrator Michael Regan, and former U.S. Secretary of Energy Ernest Moniz.
In her opening remarks, Growth Energy CEO Emily Skor emphasized the importance of biofuels to America’s energy security, environmental stewardship, and economic development. She highlighted key policy priorities, such as finalizing guidance for the 45Z tax credit, setting Renewable Volume Obligations (RVOs) that reflect current market conditions, and securing year-round access to E15 fuel nationwide.
Skor also stressed the need for investment in rural communities, citing the importance of reliable Renewable Fuel Standard (RFS) requirements for economic stability. She called for greater consumer choice at the pump, noting that biomanufacturers can help lower fuel costs for Americans.
Looking ahead, Skor outlined the potential for biofuels to play a leading role in decarbonizing hard-to-electrify sectors like air travel and freight transportation, as well as unlocking global markets for American bioproducts.
“We’re just scratching the surface of the new bioeconomy,” said Skor. “The United States can choose to lead or choose to follow.”
The summit continues through Thursday with a focus on driving innovation and expanding the role of biofuels in America’s energy landscape.
