Four people were rescued after a grain bin ruptured, burying them in corn on Friday morning in Mount Vernon, IA.

According to KWWL, all four people were successfully rescued:

  • Jared Youngblut, 37, of Lisbon
  • Allen Mallie, 62, of Mount Vernon
  • Shaun Lambertsen, 49, of Martelle
  • Matt Hayek, 51, of Iowa City

Investigators said Youngblut and Mallie were setting up the grain bin to unload corn and when the outer door was opened, the corn began to spill out, covering both of them. Lambertsen and Hayek both witnessed the incident and also got trapped in the corn when they came to help.

Authorities rescued Lambertsen and Hayek first, and then rescued Youngblut and Mallie.

Youngblut was transported to a hospital for non-life-threatening injures, and the other three were medically assessed on scene and released.
