Members and employees of Landmark Services Cooperative (LSC) donated 6,210 meals to help feed hungry families in need in southern Wisconsin in August.

“Meeting this cooperative principle i.e., concern for community, is truly part of our culture at Landmark,” said Jeremy Henkels, executive vice president, shared services for LSC. “Our involvement in the community has always been a strong focus for us but, over the past couple years, our talented group of employees have really stepped up to contribute to the communities we serve by volunteering and giving financially. I’m proud to be surrounded by such amazing people.”

Together, Landmark members and employees raised more than $2,000 for Second Harvest Foodbank of Southern Wisconsin and its sister foodbank, Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin. The money was raised during three member appreciation events in Whitewater, Fall River and Albany. The donation will support services in Second Harvest’s 16-county service area in southwestern Wisconsin and Feeding America Eastern Wisconsin’s 36-county coverage area. One dollar donated to Second Harvest provides three meals for those in need.

“I was very impressed with the number of people who bought raffle tickets not so much to win a prize, but rather to donate to Second Harvest Foodbank and help feed those in need,” stated Robin Patterson, Evansville seed coordinator for LSC.

“It was a pleasure to work with all of the Landmark employees, family members and friends to host these customer appreciation events,” said Dan Beccue, grain division controller for LSC. “It was very humbling to have their members dig deep and support the Second Harvest Foodbank of southern Wisconsin with their generosity, raising over $2,000.”

Landmark was inspired to work with Second Harvest through the “Drive to Feed” program created by feed ingredient supplier Nutra Blend. Drive to Feed is a national organization dedicated to educating consumers about agriculture’s role in feeding the world.

“As I attended all three member appreciation events, it was great to see so many people participate in the raffles,” said Justin Wood, sales manager for Nutra Blend. “Every time someone purchased just one ticket, they provided at least nine meals to someone in need. That is a huge part of Nutra Blend’s Drive to Feed initiative to feed hungry children.”
