Canadian Pacific Kansas City set all-time monthly records in October 2026 by moving 5.91 million metric tons and 61,561 carloads of grain across its three-nation network, marking the third consecutive record month to start the 2026-27 crop year.

  • CPKC moved 3.26 million metric tons and 33,822 carloads of grain in Canada during October 2026, surpassing the previous October record from 2022
  • U.S. grain volumes reached 2.65 million metric tons and 27,739 carloads, beating the previous high set in October 2024
  • Combined October totals of 5.91 million metric tons and 61,561 carloads represent all-time company records for a single month
  • CPKC has set U.S. monthly grain records in five of the last six months (May, June, July, September, and October)
  • The railway's three-nation network connects Canada, the U.S., and Mexico with access to ports from Vancouver to the Gulf Coast and Mexico

Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) moved record volumes of grain and grain products in both Canada and the U.S. in October, setting all-time highs for monthly grain carloads and tonnage across its network.

In Canada, the railway moved 3.26 million metric tons and 33,822 carloads of grain and grain products in October 2026, according to a CPKC release. That topped the previous October records set in 2022 and marked the third straight record month to open the 2026-27 crop year. Through Week 13 of the crop year, CPKC has moved more than 8.5 million metric tons and 88,064 carloads of Canadian grain and grain products.

U.S. volumes followed the same pattern. CPKC moved 2.65 million metric tons and 27,739 carloads of U.S. grain and grain products in October, beating the previous high set in October 2024. The railroad has now set U.S. monthly grain records in five of the last six months: May, June, July, September and October.

Taken together, the two national totals come to 5.91 million metric tons and 61,561 carloads. CPKC said the combined October figures set all-time company records for both carloads and metric tons moved in a single month.

The company tied the volumes to crop size and network reach. John Brooks, executive vice president and chief marketing officer, pointed to another above-average harvest and the railway's three-nation footprint.

"With another above-average North American crop and the unmatched reach of CPKC's three-nation network to global markets, we are well positioned to deliver another strong grain season, driving solid volume performance while providing reliable service across the grain supply chain," Brooks said.

CPKC operates the only single-line railway linking Canada, the U.S. and Mexico, with access to ports from Vancouver to Atlantic Canada, the Gulf Coast and Lázaro Cárdenas, Mexico. The network covers about 20,000 route miles.

For elevators and shippers, the run of records means more grain is moving to export terminals and domestic buyers early in the crop year, after a summer of record U.S. months. The Canadian count is now three for three to start 2026-27.

CPKC laid out its service plans for the season in its 2026-27 Grain Service Outlook Report, released July 31. The Calgary, Alberta-based company has not yet reported November volumes.
