The Nebraska Public Service Commission has opened a complaint against The Andersons Inc. after a grain producer reported the Ohio-based company failed to pay for multiple grain deliveries.
The commission’s Grain Warehouses and Dealers Department filed the complaint Aug. 6 following an investigation. The Andersons, which holds a state grain dealer license allowing it to buy, sell and broker grain in Nebraska, has since reached an agreement with the producer.
Now the commission wants to know if other Nebraska grain producers have faced similar problems.
“Our priority is protecting Nebraska’s grain producers and ensuring buyers meet their obligations under state law,” said Terri Fritz, grain department director. “If producers are not being paid in a timely manner, we want to hear from them. Information from other sellers will help us determine whether this is an isolated incident or part of a broader pattern.”
The commission is asking producers or sellers who have experienced payment delays from The Andersons or other grain dealers to come forward.
Commission officials stress that timely reporting matters. Prompt notification allows the agency to investigate potential violations and take action to protect Nebraska’s grain community.
The complaint comes as grain dealers across the state prepare for harvest season, when payment disputes can affect producers’ ability to maintain operations.
