Landus launches AI-powered drone scouting platform for farmers

SkyScout technology promises to cut yield prediction variability in half with regular aerial monitoring.

Landus has introduced SkyScout, a new aerial technology platform combining drone and fixed-wing scouting with artificial intelligence to help farmers make more informed decisions about their crops.

The system delivers high-resolution images of fields every 12 days, providing early detection of issues including weed pressure, nutrient deficiencies and disease outbreaks — sometimes up to two weeks before they become visible from the ground.

"Growers are generally within 10 percent when predicting their yield — SkyScout can reduce that variability by 50 percent," said Sam Caton, interim CEO of Landus and executive vice president of sales.

What distinguishes the platform is that Landus agronomists review each scan and provide customized recommendations based on the aerial imagery.

"Our agronomists can translate the drone imagery into specific action items, whether that's targeted applications or addressing issues early before they spread," said John Finneseth, director of technical experts at Landus.

The technology helps farmers optimize seed selection, tillage practices and fertilizer applications by identifying problems with up to 95 percent precision, according to the company.

Iowa farmers can sign up for the service immediately through their Landus sales representative or by visiting landus.ag.
