Senate Confirms Dr. Stephen Hahn to Head FDA

FDA is main agency regulating animal food industry

The Senate voted 72 to 18 to confirm Dr. Stephen Hahn as commissioner of the Food and Drug Administration, reports The New York Times.

Dr. Hahn, chief medical executive at the University of Texas M.D. Anderson Cancer Center, was nominated by President Trump to replace Dr. Scott Gottlieb, who left the post in the spring.

In response to the confirmation, the American Feed Industry Association (AFIA) noted it looks forward to working with Commissioner Hahn, as FDA is the main agency regulating the animal food industry.

“Commissioner Hahn has as extensive medical resume and AFIA plans to grow his awareness on animal food issues," says Constance Cullman, president & CEO of AFIA. "Some of our primary goals involve working with the new commissioner on the importance of an efficient, predictable review process of animal food ingredients as well as working with the agency on the implementation of the Food Safety Modernization Act."
