Iowa soybean farmers have a new opportunity to increase their profits in 2025 through Landus' expanded Clean Fuel Regulation (CFR) initiative. The program, made possible by recent policy changes expected to boost Canada's liquid biofuel demand, offers premium market access for soybeans processed at the Ralston Landus location.
The initiative, partnering with the digital platform Verity, tracks and validates sustainability attributes such as carbon data. Participating farmers in the 2024 crop program received approximately $750,000 in additional premiums, which Landus will distribute after its fiscal year end.
Enrollment for the 2025 soybean crop opens in August. Farmers must complete a brief harvester declaration and deliver soybeans to Landus, with signed chain-of-custody documentation submitted by early October. There is no limit on enrolled bushels, but retroactive enrollment is not permitted.
Craig Mouchka, Director of Sustainability at Landus, anticipates quadrupling premiums by next year, benefiting more Iowa farmers. The CFR initiative is part of Landus' broader efforts to help farmers profit from regenerative practices, generating nearly $2 million in additional premiums for the 2024 crop across various sustainability programs.
"These premiums demonstrate that regenerative practices can yield measurable returns," Mouchka said. "We're helping farmers convert their sustainable practices into revenue while strengthening the agricultural system."
