The blaze, which began shortly after 4 a.m., resulted in the closure of Highway 73 through Philip and local access from Interstate 90.
Firefighters quickly established a safety perimeter as the flames spread to a nearby grass field, threatening residential properties. Jerome Harvey, Pennington County Fire Administrator, praised the Philip Fire Department's effective action plan and rapid response in containing the fire.
