Julie Buntjer reported on a small explosion occurred inside a feed mill at Son-D-Farms south of Adrian, Minnesota, on Saturday, for The Globe. The explosion resulted in no injuries and minimal damage, according to Adrian Fire Department Assistant Chief Dallas Sieve.
The incident prompted the dispatch of five fire departments to the scene. Ellsworth and Lismore provided pumpers, Ellsworth and Rushmore hauled water, and Worthington sent its aerial truck to access the fire inside the 100-foot-tall grain setup.
The initial call came in at approximately 4:45 p.m. Saturday. Sieve reported that upon arrival, the explosion had already occurred, and there were no visible flames. The feed was smoldering inside a compartment bin above the feed mixer, but firefighters were unable to access the area until Worthington's aerial truck arrived. In the interim, crews worked to keep the compartment cool.
The explosion was believed to have been sparked by welding work being done on the grain setup.
