Two grain traders are facing fines in South Dakota after regulators said they were operating in the state without a license, reports AgWeek.

The most serious of the two cases involves Crossroads Cooperative of Sidney, NE.

A complaint filed by the South Dakota Public Utilities Commission says that Crossroads operated for more than two years without a license, making more than 700 grain purchases.

The commission also took action against Atlantic Grain and Trade, headquartered in South Carolina.

The PUC said Atlantic bought about 69 train car loads of grain without a license, but cooperated with the state on stopping purchases and getting a license as soon as it was contacted.
