Fire at Cargill Ethanol Plant in Iowa

Hydraulic line malfunctioned and sprayed fluid onto hot pipes

Firefighters put out a fire at a Cargill ethanol plant west of Fort Dodge, IA, Sunday evening, reports The Messenger.

Fort Dodge Firefighter Jeff Hill said a hydraulic line malfunctioned and sprayed fluid onto these very hot pipes, where it caught fire.

Cargill personnel were able to control the fire with fire extinguishers, but the flames also spread into the insulation around the pipes, located under metal shielding. Firefighters cut past the outside metal to get at the insulation to find where it was smoldering.
