South Dakota Ethanol Co-op Keeps Grinding

With demand lacking, Glacial Lakes Ethanol in Watertown is still open for business

With a sharp drop in demand from the COVID-19 pandemic, ethanol producers in the Dakotas and Minnesota are making different decisions about staying open.

According to a report at the Capital Journal, Glacial Lakes Ethanol LLC (GLE), based in Watertown, SD, with its four ethanol plants and one million gallons of daily production in South Dakota, is part of the half of the industry still open for business.

Jim Seurer, GLE’s chief executive officer, speaking to Agweek on April 16, says the co-op decided to keep grinding corn.

"We’ve got commitments to keep,” Seuer said.
