Bayshore Broadcasting's Matt Hermiz reported that the historic grain elevator on the Owen Sound, Ontario, harbourfront will cease operations later this year, a spokesperson confirmed.
The facility has taken in deliveries from area producers and moved grain onward through the port for generations, and it remains one of the most recognizable structures on the city's waterfront.
What happens to the property has not been decided. Decommissioning, sale, redevelopment and heritage preservation are all on the table once operations wind down.
Producers, haulers and port operators who use the site will need to redirect deliveries once the elevator stops taking grain.
