Tornado damages grain elevator in Slater, Missouri

Central Missouri storm hits agricultural community during peak planting season.

The News Tribune posted a report by  Brendan Berger and Henry Hamilton on a tornado that swept through Central Missouri and destroyed a grain bin in Slater, Missouri. The grain bin next to Central Missouri AGRIService was completely destroyed as the storm hit three small towns along Highway 240 in Saline and Howard counties.

“We’re in the heart of planting season right now, and this community in particular is so agricultural-based. It hits home,” said Travis McCann, branch president of Exchange Bank of Missouri in Slater.

Power outages affected the entire town of 1,823 residents, with electricity not expected to return until Wednesday afternoon. Recovery teams worked Tuesday to clear damaged buildings and restore utilities throughout the agricultural community.
