US-UK trade deal boosts ethanol exports, agricultural market access

Agreement creates $5 billion opportunity for U.S. farmers and producers.

The White House announced a trade deal with the United Kingdom on Tuesday, significantly expanding market access for U.S. companies and creating new opportunities for farmers and ethanol producers.

The agreement establishes a tariff-free quota for 368 million gallons of U.S. ethanol, potentially generating over $700 million in exports. This move solidifies the U.K.'s position as the second-largest importer of U.S. ethanol, following its 226.6 million gallon import in the 2023-2024 marketing year.

U.S. Grains Council President and CEO Ryan LeGrand hailed the deal as "a huge win" for ethanol producers, emphasizing its importance in expanding into a crucial market.

The trade agreement also promises $250 million in exports for other agricultural products and enhances U.S. competitiveness in the U.K.'s procurement market. Additional provisions address intellectual property, labor, environment, aerospace competitiveness and pharmaceutical supply chain security.

Overall, the deal is expected to create export opportunities worth up to $5 billion for U.S. farmers, ranchers and producers, marking a significant advancement in U.S.-U.K. trade relations.
