Clean fuels industry urges EPA to increase renewable fuel volumes for 2026

Coalition of agricultural and biofuel groups calls for 5.25 billion gallon target for biomass-based diesel.

A coalition of clean fuels and agricultural organizations has called on the Environmental Protection Agency to establish higher Renewable Fuel Standard volumes for 2026 and beyond.

In a letter to EPA Administrator Lee Zeldin, the groups, including Clean Fuels Alliance America and the American Farm Bureau Federation, requested a biomass-based diesel volume of 5.25 billion gallons for 2026, along with a corresponding increase in advanced biofuel volumes.

"Setting these volumes for 2026 and establishing consistent growth for 2027 and beyond based on the industry's investments and projections will ensure that American consumers can access affordable and clean transportation options," the letter stated.

The coalition emphasized that robust RFS volumes would support farm security, create jobs, and advance U.S. energy dominance.

Kurt Kovarik, Clean Fuels' VP of Federal Affairs, highlighted the industry's recent growth, noting that biodiesel and renewable diesel production has doubled in recent years due to investments in capacity and feedstock processing.

"EPA needs to make a step-change in the RFS volumes for biomass-based diesel and advanced biofuels to account for proven production capacity and to support continued investment and economic growth," Kovarik said.

The letter underscores the clean fuels industry's push for policy support to maintain momentum in renewable fuel production and contribute to U.S. energy security goals.
