Benson Hill, Inc. has announced promising results from its second commercial feeding trial of Ultra-High Protein, Low Oligosaccharide (UHP-LO) soybean meal in poultry diets. The study, conducted in partnership with a major poultry integrator, validates the significant benefits of incorporating UHP-LO soybean meal into commercial broiler diets.
Key findings from the six-week trial include:
- 5.4% improvement in broiler weights
- 3.2% enhancement in feed conversion ratios
- Increased muscle growth compared to birds fed with commodity soybean meal
These results reinforce the findings from Benson Hill's first broiler feeding study released in May 2024, demonstrating the consistent performance of their proprietary soybean genetics.
Deanie Elsner, Chief Executive Officer of Benson Hill, emphasized the significance of the study: "This latest feeding trial showcases the transformative impact of switching from commodity soybean meal to a high-protein, nutritious option that is truly Made from Better™. We estimate that choosing specialty soy from Benson Hill can generate approximately $2.2 billion of value annually for the broiler industry."
The UHP-LO soybean meal offers poultry producers enhanced flexibility in formulating feeding rations, allowing for both cost advantages (up to 5% in prior studies) and bird performance gains (up to 5.4% in this study). This dual benefit has significant implications across the poultry value chain.
