Each year thousands of attendees gather at GEAPS Exchange to learn about the latest topics affecting the grain handling industry industry and explore innovative new products and services in The Expo.

This year’s Exchange will take place March 21-24 in Minneapolis and offers nearly 40 hours of education, opportunities to network, find operations solutions and learn about new technologies and best practices from across the industry.

The Expo will feature over 350 exhibitors, as well as training pods. See new equipment and learn how it can help at your facility.

Sunday, March 22
8 – 9:30 a.m.

Opening Workshop: Commitment to Safety

The Exchange kicks off on a deep dive into a high-profile industry topic presented by a panel of experts. Hear industry leaders and safety professionals give a first-hand account of real safety situations and the methods that they have implemented to correct hazards and prevent injuries.

9:45 – 11 a.m.

Idea Exchange

The Idea Exchange features a variety of participants delivering short presentations with a goal of giving you the latest in what’s new in the industry.

1:45 – 2:30 p.m. and 4 – 4:45 p.m.

Grain Entrapment Rescue Demo

This interactive training will reinforce proper rescue techniques for grain entrapment, and help you build skills to keep yourself and co-workers safe. Presentations happening daily on the Expo Hall.

4:30 – 6 p.m.

Welcome Reception

Enjoy a networking event with drinks and snacks while you stroll through the hall. The Welcome Reception is a great opportunity to network and explore the hall as the first day of the Expo comes to a close.

Monday, March 23
7:30 – 8:30 a.m.

World Class Safety Culture

Achieving world-class status in safety isn’t just about an injury rate below a certain threshold. While numbers and hard data are important, they are only a reflection of a critically few characteristics that shape an organization’s safety results.

Remediation of Existing Structures: Foundations

Construction and operation of complex and large grain facilities cannot be undertaken without risk. As the grain industry continues to leverage larger, heavier structures, there needs to be an understanding of the geotechnical risks associated with the latest geotechnical construction techniques.

8:45 – 9:45 a.m.

Grain Inspection: Secrets Revealed

Federal Grain Inspection Advisor Committee is an important resource to all grain handlers. The committee advises FGIS on the programs, policies and services it delivers under the U.S. Grain Standards Act and the Agricultural Marketing Act.

FSMA Leaves No Room for “Good Enough”

Is your facility prepared for an FDA auditor? This session will help participants be more prepared and aware as auditors are diving deeper into facilities records and will focus on FDA visits vs. FSMA Compliance, Grain Elevator Exemptions and

Foreign Supplier Verification.

Operational Excellence: Lean in the Grain Industry

Lean is a business philosophy focused on maximizing customer value by eliminating waste. While these ideas originated in automotive manufacturing, they have been successfully applied to multiple industries.

Remediation of Existing Structures: Panel Discussion

In this panel discussion, experts in the grain industry will discuss real questions about the remediation of existing structures and geotechnical conditions.

3:15 to 4:15 p.m.

Trade Wars

In this session, the factors and reasons behind the various trade disputes impacting agriculture will be discussed with a focus on the U.S.-China trade war.

Safe Processing of Combustible Dust

Explosible dust clouds are regularly formed inside the powder storage, handling and processing equipment. Additionally, explosible dust clouds can form inside processing buildings under poor housekeeping conditions.

4:30 to 5:30 p.m.

Critical Issues Impacting the Grain Industry

Human Resource is a critical and necessary part of any organization. Join us for a panel focused on current HR concerns.

OSHA & EPA Regulatory Update

Topics will include OSHA’s and EPA’s policies, rule-makings and interpretations on such issues as continued enforcement within the grain handling industry; injury and illness record keeping; combustible dust; walking-working surfaces and temporary storage.

Tuesday, March 24

7:30 – 8:30 a.m.

The Next Big Things: NC-213 Emerging Research in Grain Handling and Processing

NC-213 researchers address critical, continuing issues in post-harvest grain quality. This presentation will outline and summarize innovations in grain handling and processing from a research perspective.
New ideas are proposed on how grain can be processed and handled with lower energy, less waste, greater efficiency and greater profit margin. Improvements on the horizon and in the next 50 years in grain handling and processing will be discussed.

Safe from Day One

Onboarding new employees presents a unique set of challenges, including low reading and comprehension levels, time constraints and language barriers. This session will provide you with strategies for providing employees with the safety information they need to keep themselves safe while maintaining compliance with workplace safety standards.

Organic & Non-GMO: Is the Premium Worth the Process?

This session provides insight into organic and non-GMO trends as well as the challenges and requirements to satisfy these standards.

How Data Infrastructure Improves Elevator Analytics and Asset Performance

The key to optimizing production with no additional capital investment is a digital infrastructure that enables self-service access to operational data.

Active Aggressor: It’s Not Just About a Gun

All sorts of aggression can take place in the workplace from customers and employees and their relatives. A certified ALICE (Alert, Lockdown, Inform, Counter, Evacuate) instructor discusses how to protect your company from an active aggressor and how to enable employees to react properly.

Understanding ROI of Industrial 4.0 and IOT

Industrial professionals are being bombarded with marketing messaging around Internet of things, Industry 4.0 and cloud technology. It’s hard to differentiate between what are solutions that can provide real value to your business and those that are buzzwords. Closing Workshop: Avoiding Costly Project Problems

This session examines some case studies of devastating project disasters and probable root causes. This will include discussion on how to prepare for lawyers and insurance companies, and the heavy involvement between the owner and project stakeholders.

Takeaways will also include ideas for alternatives to potentially unsafe conditions and considerable time and expense in a courtroom.

Wednesday, March 25

9 a.m. – 1 p.m.
Post Conference Tour: Rahr Malting

Join the tour of Rahr Malting where you will be guided through the malting process; transforming barley into brewing malt. The tour will consist of visiting several malt houses on campus as well as the new Rahr Malting Technical Center, featuring a state-of-the-art brewery and lab. See where malt, and other brewing ingredients, are bagged and distributed to craft brewers around the country.
