KVRR's Gabriel Ostler reported on a large fire that broke out Friday night at O’Brien Seed in Mayville, North Dakota, prompting a multi-department response that lasted for hours. Strong winds carried embers, threatening nearby homes within an eight- to nine-block radius. Fire crews and residents worked together to hose down houses to prevent the fire’s spread.
The grain elevator partially collapsed around 9 p.m., and by Saturday morning, the fire was contained but still smoldering. Authorities have blocked off 2nd Avenue for several days to monitor the site and manage flare-ups. Mayville and Portland fire departments are expected to remain on scene for the next few days.
