WCIA's Molly Sweeney reported that a grain bin collapsed Wednesday afternoon in Martinton, Illinois, bringing down powerlines and causing outages.
Terry Winger, general manager of Donovan Farmers Cooperative, said employees noticed signs of distress on a cement silo and evacuated the site before the collapse. No injuries were reported.
Martinton Fire Protection District Chief Jeff Meyer urged the public to avoid the area while crews secure downed powerlines and begin cleanup. Firefighters from Watseka, Papineau and Ashkum assisted at the scene.
Specialty contractors and structural engineers are assessing the site. Farmers are advised to use alternative locations in Donovan and Hooper until the Martinton site reopens.
