VAA Promotes Two Partners

Doug Nagel, PE, and Brian Utoft, PE, are promoted to partner group

VAA partner promotions

VAA announces the promotions of Doug Nagel, PE and Brian Utoft, PE to the partner group. The firm of 150 employees is now privately held by 12 owners.

When Doug Nagel, PE, started his career as an intern, his structural engineering growth came from the undergraduate and grad programs at the U of M and hands-on guidance from VAA senior leadership in steel, concrete and slipform design.

Today, he pays it forward as he lends design insight on grain storage silos and agricultural and industrial facilities across North America and offers evaluations of process enhancements and retrofits to owners and design-build contractors.

An active member in the engineering community, Nagel is Vice President of the Minnesota Concrete Council and a member of ACI Committee 313. The ACI group produces the specification that governs design and construction of concrete bins and silos in the United States.

Brian Utoft, PE, manages the design of heavy industrial facilities, including wet and dry grain processing, seed conditioning and mineral processing. A natural aptitude for numbers and genuine interest to understand client’s business beyond projects, Brian is an essential player in VAA’s business development efforts. He also orchestrates initiatives for improving communication, documentation and drawing standards in project management, equipment layout, and group dynamics corporate wide.

Utoft is actively involved in the Grain Elevator and Processing Society (GEAPS) and Master Brewers Association of the Americas.
