One person is dead after an equipment accident that happened June 17, according to a Facebook post by Sumter County Fire Rescue (SCFR).
SCFR was dispatched at 1:36 p.m. to reports of a person pinned under heavy equipment at the Plains Experiment Station, a research station at the University of Georgia, College of Agricultural & Environmental Sciences Tifton Campus in Tifton, GA.
After officials arrived at the scene, they reported a grain bin elevator had collapsed trapping one victim who had already been removed by facility employees.
Resuscitative efforts by emergency personnel were unsuccessful.
Officials have not identified the person who died.
