Wheat kernels and dust flew up in the air on a windy afternoon as Merlin Potts dumped a truckload of grain into a pit at Central Valley Ag elevator.
The Mercury reports Potts is one of many farmers in the area harvesting wheat this week, working around rainy days to clear his fields.
At the elevator an auger carried wheat up more than 100 feet and released it into a silo, one of four 250,000-bushel bins at Central Valley Ag.
With a drier spring and cold temperatures later into the year than usual, the wheat crop in Kansas is expected to come in about 10 bushels less per acre than in 2017’s 48 bushels per acre.
Central Valley Ag is buying wheat at $4.95 per bushel this year.
