Iowa Co-op: We’ll Be Ready to Take Grain This Fall

Mid-Iowa Cooperative is assessing plans, securing millwrights, and expecting to be open despite damage from last week's derecho

Mid-Iowa Cooperative says its location near Toledo, IA, suffered 80% damage in last Monday's derecho, reports AgWEB.

"We have 5 million bushels, had 5 million bushels of storage available here, up until recently," Rick Eckerman, the chief administrative officer of Mid-Iowa Cooperative told AgWEB.

As a result, a 2-million-bushel ground pile will be added to the Midway location, according to the online update.

Mid-Iowa Cooperative is posting online storm damage updates for its customers; its most recent statement says:

An adjuster from Nationwide Insurance has been on site this week evaluating all affected grain locations which include: Midway, Green Mountain, Gladbrook, Haverhill, Beaman, Conrad, Liscomb and Whitten.

Demolition crews will be on site beginning on Monday, August 17, followed by a salvage company to vacuum up the exposed grain from the damaged bins.

Mid-Iowa will be using our truck fleet to transport the grain. Grain bins have been ordered and a millwright has been secured to re-build.

CEO Mike Kinley asks that all MIC employees to be in touch with our members and patrons, so we fully understand their logistical and storage needs as they evolve.

Also, know that existing employees at unaffected locations will continue their preparations for the Fall 2020 harvest.
