CPKC sets August grain transport record

Railway moves 2.54 million metric tonnes of Canadian grain and grain products in first month of new crop year.

Canadian Pacific Kansas City set a new August monthly record for transporting Canadian grain and grain products, moving 2.54 million metric tonnes and 26,051 carloads in August 2026.

It marks a strong start to the 2026-2027 crop year, which began Aug. 1. The new August record beat the previous tonnage and carload records set in August 2020. CPKC also finished the 2025-2026 crop year with a new annual record, transporting 30.66 million metric tonnes of Canadian grain and grain products during the 12-month period. That volume exceeded the previous record set in the 2020-2021 crop year.

The 2025-2026 crop year included monthly records in January, February, April, May and June.

Across CPKC’s combined U.S. and Canada network, the railway set a monthly tonnage record for grain movements in August, moving 4.86 million metric tonnes and 50,396 carloads.
