President Trump has nominated Dr. Julie Callahan to serve as chief agricultural negotiator in the Office of the U.S. Trade Representative, drawing praise from grain industry leaders.
Callahan, who has worked at USTR since 2016 overseeing agricultural affairs and commodity policy, brings "a deep understanding of global agricultural trade," according to Mike Seyfert, president and CEO of the National Grain and Feed Association.
"Her leadership will be a significant asset to the sector as we face evolving global challenges and opportunities," Seyfert said in a statement.
If confirmed, Callahan would be responsible for negotiating trade agreements and addressing barriers affecting U.S. agricultural exports.
The nomination now moves to the Senate Finance Committee for consideration.
