The Lancaster News' Jane Alford reported on ADM's plans to close its Kershaw, South Carolina, soybean processing plant in late May, ending a 50-year presence in the small community.
The closure, part of a global restructuring effort by the food processing giant, will eliminate 40 jobs and significantly impact local farmers who face increased transportation costs to reach alternative facilities.
The closure will also affect town finances, as ADM is among Kershaw's largest utility customers.
