Mar-Jac Poultry is moving forward with its plans to construct a new $25 million transload facility in Perry County, Mississippi. This project, which has been in development for nearly five years, is set to bring significant economic benefits to the region.

The state-of-the-art facility will be strategically located at the Perry County Industrial Park in New Augusta, Mississippi. It aims to capitalize on the county's existing rail infrastructure to efficiently transport essential feed ingredients such as grain, corn, and soybean meal. Keith Poss, Mar-Jac's Transportation Director, highlighted the logistical advantages, stating, "They can deliver us 100-110 car trains, which gives us a lot of protection from the capacity and inventory perspective."

The investment is expected to create 21 new jobs with competitive salaries, reinforcing the company's commitment to local economic development. Poss elaborated on the employment opportunities, saying, "The average salary would be close to $70,000. There'll be a lot of CDL drivers to begin with, and later on there'll be more feedmill-type jobs."

Construction is slated to begin with civil work in the first quarter of 2025, with the facility expected to be completed within the same quarter. Mar-Jac has also outlined plans for potential expansion at the site, which could bring additional employment opportunities and economic benefits to the area in the future.

County leaders have expressed enthusiasm about the project, recognizing its potential to boost the local economy and provide high-paying jobs. The facility's use of the existing railroad system is seen as a strategic move that will enhance the region's industrial capabilities.

As the project develops, it is expected to play a key role in Mar-Jac's ongoing efforts to provide consumers with high-quality, affordable poultry products while contributing significantly to the local economy. The Mar-Jac transload facility represents a major step forward for Perry County's industrial development, promising to bring new opportunities and economic vitality to the area for years to come.
