In the dairy industry, maximizing nutrient utilization and optimizing milk yield and solids are critical goals for high-producing cows. Recent studies have highlighted the effectiveness of incorporating whole cottonseed (WCS) into dairy cow diets, offering significant advantages due to its unique nutritional composition. In this blog, we will discuss the key findings from a recent research report on WCS and its impact on nutrient digestibility, milk production and overall cow health.

Whole cottonseed is a multi-faceted feed ingredient, especially rich in fatty acids (FA) and crude protein (CP). This dual nature makes it an excellent source of energy and protein. The study outlined in this article investigated the effect of increasing WCS inclusion in the diet of dairy cows at levels of 0%, 8%, 16% and 24% dry matter (DM). The results demonstrated a quadratic response in terms of nutrient digestibility and intake.
