When it comes to optimizing piglet nutrition, soybeans continue to dominate the protein stage. One version of soybeans, that of fermented soybean meal, has slowly emerged as a new ingredient that offers benefits and potential challenges. Based on our experiences using this ingredient in commercial piglet feeds, we would like to offer the following for consideration.

Fermented soybean meal is a feed ingredient produced through the millennia-old process of fermentation using microbial cultures. Each manufacturer uses a different fermentation “cocktail” and, as such, final products can be different. Here is a breakdown of what fermented soybean meal entails.
