Quick response saves man from grain bin auger

The collaborative efforts of Farmers Grain Employees and Litchfield Fire Department preformed the intense operation successfully extricated the individual from the auger.

An urgent call for help led to a rescue operation as Litchfield Fire Department responded to a distress call at Litchfield Farmers Grain in Litchfield, Illinois.

The incident unfolded at 2:16 pm Tuesday, when the Litchfield Fire Department was dispatched to an unknown emergency.  As more information became available, it was revealed that a person was entangled in an auger inside a grain bin.

Two Farmers Grain Employees took swift action, shoveling beans away from the side access scuttle to aid the rescue efforts. Additional Litchfield Fire Department personnel entered the grain bin through the side scuttle opening, utilizing backboards to keep the beans off the patient.

The intense rescue operation successfully extricated the individual from the auger, allowing for their safe removal through the side scuttle hole. Litchfield EMS provided Advanced Life Support Care on-site, and Arch Air Medical rendezvoused with Litchfield EMS at the West Side Station helipad for swift transfer.

The patient, despite sustaining serious injuries, was transported to a St. Louis Hospital, with the collaboration of emergency responders ensuring the best possible outcome.

The Litchfield Fire Department expressed gratitude for the prompt and effective response of Farmers Grain Employees, highlighting their crucial role in preventing further harm. The coordinated efforts of all involved parties resulted in a successful and lifesaving rescue mission.
