Golden Grain Energy, LLC is joining forces with Summit Carbon Solutions on the Midwest Carbon Express.

The partnership will allow over 350,000 tons of carbon dioxide to be captured, transported and deposited deep underground through Summit Carbon Solutions’ transportation and storage platform.

“Creating an environmentally-friendly energy source has always been a top priority for our company,” said Chad Kuhlers, CEO.

“We are proud to join with Summit Carbon Solutions on this transformational project so we can continue to create clean, safe, affordable energy for rapidly growing low-carbon fuel markets.”

Bruce Rastetter, CEO of Summit Agricultural Group, says the company is grateful to join a progressive group of partner plants that are focused on lowering their carbon footprint in a safe, economical way.

Midwest Carbon Express

Summit Carbon Solutions is proposing a pipeline, dubbed the Midwest Carbon Express, which would be more than 2,000 miles long and cross five states in total; more than 700 miles are planned across Iowa.

The $4.5 billion Summit project would be a potential boon for Midwest ethanol producers. Summit looks to connect as many as 31 ethanol plants, including as many as 12 plants in Iowa.

By trapping their carbon emissions and pumping them into the ground in North Dakota, the ethanol plants stand to capture premiums from low-carbon fuel markets such as California. The ethanol plant and pipeline would split the premium.
