President Trump’s Impact Center Stage at Feed & Grain LIVE

AFIA’s Richard Sellers predicts the opportunities and challenges that come with Trump’s administration

Altoona, IA — Richard Sellers, senior vice president of public policy and education of the American Feed Industry Association, presented an educational session titled President Trump and the Feed Industry: What’s Next? at Feed & Grain LIVE.

In his presentation, Sellers described the Trump administration as unconventional, unpredictable, turbulent and a “total reset.” He went on to highlight the opportunity for regulatory reform under the new administration, noting that many of Trump’s cabinet nominees are staunch opponents of regulatory overreach. New leadership at key agencies such as FDA, OSHA and EPA could lead to extensions of FSMA compliance dates, VFD exemptions, and alter the Renewable Fuels Standard.

Sellers then identified Trump’s stance on trade as a challenge for the agriculture industry, due to the United States’ withdrawal from the Trans-Pacific Partnership, a move he described as a “significant loss for agriculture that affects other nations’ trust in the United States with future negotiations.”

The session was sponsored by New Berlin, WI-based WEM Automation, Inc., a supplier of automated process control systems for the feed and grain industry.

Feed & Grain magazine hosted its second annual educational conference and trade show, Feed & Grain LIVE, at Prairie Meadows Casino and Hotel in Altoona, IA, from May 31 - June 2. The two-and-a-half-day event featured 14 hours of education, 11 hours of trade show and 55 booths, exhibiting industry suppliers’ products and services.

The conference included a hands-on mycotoxin workshop, a panel on developing a written food safety plan and a general session on handling the everyday crisis. Meanwhile, concurrent sessions covered topics ranging from grain quality management, emerging overseas markets, onboarding and cross-training employees, and grain merchandising trends.
