Argentina's Grain Sector Strikes Again

Workers are looking for bonus payments for working during the pandemic

Argentina's major grains sector has been hit by a spate of strikes and contract stand-offs with unions throughout the production and export chain.

Successful Farming reports global commodities giants such as Cargill, China's COFCO International, Bunge, and local players including ADM, export soybeans, wheat, corn and barley from Argentina's fertile grasslands to buyers around the world.

WHO: SOEA oilseed workers union, representing laborers in Argentina's key grains export hub to the north of Rosario.

DEMANDS: Bonus payments for working during the pandemic.

STATUS: Held a recent multi-day strike which was lifted on Dec. 6 after crushing companies urged the union back to the negotiating table.
