Air Protein, a pioneer in producing meat made from elements of the air, announces the successful completion of its $32 million Series A round of fundraising. Led by Founder and CEO Dr. Lisa Dyson, Air Protein will use the funding to launch an innovation R&D lab, accelerate product development and commercialization, and to recruit and build a world-class team.
Air Protein was inspired by Dr. Dyson’s mission to build a modern meat company to introduce nutritious, ultra-sustainable, alternative proteins that can sustainably feed the world’s growing population. The Series A is led by ADM Ventures, Barclays and GV (formerly Google Ventures).
“With this funding, we will be able to accelerate our work towards providing innovative, environmentally-friendly, highly nutritious alternatives that will play an important role in meeting the growing global demand for alternatives to animal protein,” says Dyson. “We are commercializing a novel technology platform that is capable of scaling to large-scale production to help feed the world’s 10 billion people by the year 2050, in the most sustainable approach available today.”
Air Protein uses a unique technology to produce protein in sustainable, vertical “farms” that can be built virtually anywhere on the planet. Air Protein meat can be produced in days, making it highly scalable and extremely planet friendly.
It all sounds very futuristic, but Dyson says it’s like making yogurt, a process that involves live cultures, but that requires no arable land. Bloomberg reports, if scalable, the technology will help cut agriculture emissions and even improve food security as the product can be made anywhere independent of climate, soil and weather conditions.
