
The U.S. Department of Agriculture's Grain Transportation Report for April 3, reveals a mixed picture for grain exports and transportation. Unshipped balances of corn, soybeans, and wheat for marketing year 2024/25 totaled 30.37 million metric tons, down 5% from last week but up 15% year-over-year.
Corn export sales fell 31% to 1.04 million metric tons, while soybean sales dipped 4% to 0.34 million metric tons. In contrast, wheat sales surged 140% to 0.10 million metric tons.
U.S. Class I railroads originated 26,013 grain carloads for the week ending March 22, up 3% from last year. Barged grain movements increased 2% week-over-week to 685,986 tons.
Ocean freight rates from the U.S. Gulf to Japan rose 1% to $47.75 per metric ton, while diesel prices increased 2.5 cents to $3.592 per gallon, remaining 40.4 cents below last year's levels.
