Rail blockades across Canada have Alberta pork and grain producers’ backs against the wall, say industry leaders.
Shipp said pork farmers rely on rail to deliver needed supplies for their operations, such as propane and feed, reports the Edmonton Journal.
Mark Hemmes, president of Quorum Corp, said in a Postmedia interview grain deliveries awaiting shipment have gone down by 560,000 tonnes because of the barriers within the past four weeks alone.
He said gain shipments to Canadian ports have dropped 1.2 million tonnes this year so far, with the biggest drop happening this month.
To get around the barricades, CN and CP rail agreed to share lines.
