Canadian Pacific Kansas City (CPKC) said Tuesday it set new September monthly and third quarter records for transporting grain and grain products across Canada and the United States.

The railway moved 2.94 million metric tonnes and 30,324 carloads of grain and grain products in Canada during September 2026, marking the second consecutive record month to start the 2026-2027 crop year. The company also set a third quarter record for carloads and metric tonnes in Canadian grain during the July through September period.

In the United States, CPKC transported 2.51 million metric tonnes and 26,236 carloads of grain and grain products in September. The three-month period also set a third quarter record for carloads and metric tonnes in U.S. grain.

Combined Canadian and U.S. grain volumes set new records for total carloads and metric tonnes for both the month of September and the third quarter. All the new records surpassed marks set in 2020.

“These new records reflect the collective effort of CPKC railroaders, our customers and those across the grain supply chain working together with a shared commitment to service, safety and execution,” said Elizabeth Hucker, CPKC vice president of sales and marketing bulk.

Through the first eight weeks of the crop year, CPKC has transported more than 4.99 million metric tonnes and 51,268 carloads of Canadian grain and grain products.

The company released its 2026-2027 Grain Service Outlook Report on July 31, outlining plans to provide grain customers with safe and reliable service throughout the crop year.
